Application of low temperature plasma surface treatment technology in breeding

     With the continuous maturity of low-temperature plasma surface treatment technology, plasma surface treatment seed technology has begun to be applied to agricultural breeding and other aspects in recent years. This is still a new research field at home and abroad. Plasma surface treatment technology is to use plasma to flush the seed surface to enhance the vitality of the seeds, so that the treated crops have stronger growth advantages throughout the entire growth cycle from germination to maturity, achieving the purpose of increasing production and resisting adversity.

The results show that plasma surface treatment has the following functions in breeding:

1. Significantly improve germination potential and germination rate. After plasma surface treatment of seeds, it can promote seed germination and germinate 1~2 days in advance. Germination potential and germination rate are also significantly improved, especially for old seeds and varieties with low germination rate, the germination rate can be increased by 10%~15%;

2. Reduce pests and diseases. In the process of plasma surface treatment of seeds, plasma can kill the pathogens on the surface of seeds very well, thereby improving the disease resistance of seeds during germination and significantly reducing the occurrence of seedling diseases;

3. Enhance stress resistance. In the process of plasma surface treatment of seeds, the activity of various enzymes in seeds will be activated, thereby improving the drought resistance, salt resistance and low temperature resistance of crops.

4. Obvious growth advantage. After plasma surface treatment of seeds, the activity of seeds and the activity of various enzymes are significantly improved, which has a significant promoting effect on the growth of plant roots, and the number of roots and dry matter weight are significantly increased. The manifestations are long, thick and numerous roots, fast growth and development, vigorous growth of crops, and generally tall and strong plants;

5. Promote early maturity and increase yield. The fruits of crop seeds treated with plasma surface treatment will mature earlier, and the average yield of grain crops will increase by 8% to 12%.
