What you should know about UV-ozone cleaning machine

  UV ozone cleaning machine is often used in the sample application of scanning probe microscope. The equipment can be used to clean the atomic force microscope probe, scanning probe microscope standard and conventional oil layer and residual inorganic materials on the surface. It can also be used to change the hydrophobicity of the surface of the object, which is helpful for the chemical modification of parts and surfaces. The oxidized and hardened probe is conducive to maintaining the geometric shape of the probe during the scanning process, and the sharpened probe is conducive to improving the lateral resolution. Ozone cleaning machine equipment has been used in nanotechnology, chemistry, biology, optics, electronics, semiconductors and other scientific laboratories around the world.


Ultraviolet surface modification: The 185nm and 254nm wavelength ultraviolet light emitted by the low-pressure ultraviolet mercury lamp has the function of cleaning and removing organic pollutants on the surface of the object, and can also perform surface modification. The basic principle is: photon energy opens the surface molecular bonds of the object and pulls out H atoms and C atoms, which decompose with the active oxygen (O) in the air to generate highly polar atomic groups (OH, CHO, COOH), namely hydroxyl and other active groups. At the same time, the cleaning effect of organic pollutants on the surface of the material is significant, and the activated substrate surface has good adhesion and bonding properties. These hydroxyls are combined with coatings, adhesives, and electroplating materials to form new chemical bonds, so that the surface of the material can obtain a strong bonding strength that is not usually obtained, or the material can obtain stable surface properties.


Safety precautions for UV ozone cleaning machine:


Equipment users should be familiar with all aspects of operation and should use appropriate safety precautions.


1. Risk of exposure to high-intensity ultraviolet (UV) light: The equipment emits strong ultraviolet light. Do not expose materials that may be damaged by ultraviolet light to the light source!


2. Chemical exposure hazard: The equipment produces ozone, a strong irritating gas that may cause poisoning. Although the half-life of ozone is relatively short, it should still be used with caution. If conditions permit, it can be placed in a fume hood for use. The UV lamp is a mercury lamp, and special attention should be paid to prevent mercury leakage.


3. Danger of electric shock: The output voltage of the device is several thousand volts, which is fatal. In addition, the power supply contains capacitors, which may hold residual charge, and the instrument can temporarily emit light even when the power is disconnected. Never use the instrument when the UV lamp is damaged or broken! Do not use liquids! Do not disassemble, modify or attempt to repair this device!


4. Risk of fire or explosion: Do not use flammable liquids, gases or materials!
